Kiasmos – “Sisteron”.

From Single: Sisteron. 2025.

Kiasmos is a duo, integrated by Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds and Faroese musician Janus Rasmussen. Their music explores minimal, experimental techno, and ambient. They have been active since the late 2000s, and achieved unexpected global success after their 2014 debut album.

Their unique blend of minimal techno and orchestral elements captivated audiences worldwide. After a decade of absence, they released their second album, “II,” in 2024.

The selected piece for today, “Sisteron”, is a new release that bursted into the new year 2025. “Sisteron” was named after the site where they made their Cercle debut at Citadelle de Sisteron in France. The track has a serene-like quality to it that matches the location.

Aili – “Nandakke?”.

From Album: Nandakke? 2024.

Aili is a Belgian-Japanese electro-pop duo formed by Aili Maruyama and Orson Wouters. Aili’s Japanese heritage significantly influences their music, particularly her lyrics.

Their debut album “Nandakke?” showcases diverse musical styles, blending electro-pop, electronica, and house music, with topics that go from personal experiences, to cultural themes.

Nandakke? is a hyper catchy song, which translates into “well, what was it”.“It’s something you say when you’re looking for a word, like you know it but have forgotten how to say it.

Gints Zilbadolis & Rihards Zalupe – “Flow Away”.

From Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, Flow. 2024.

With the recent Golden Globes award ceremony, one film that made a big impact was “Flow”. This non-dialog, animated film, won the Golden Globe for Best Animated Motion Picture.

Cat is a solitary animal, but as its home is devastated by a great flood, he finds refuge on a boat populated by various species, and will have to team up with them despite their differences.

Flow was created by Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis, who also composed the music, along with Rihards Zalupe.

And because I could not stop watching the movie over and over, I wanted to share the main theme of its soundtrack, in an introspective and vulnerable approach. Composed by Gints Zilbadolis and Rihards Zalupe, this is Flow Away.

Ichiko Aoba – “月の丘 (A Hill of the Moon)”.

From Album: q p. 2018.

The first full moon of 2025, The Wolf Moon, happened on January 13th. Also, this offered a unique opportunity of seeing Mars alongside in a conjunction that made a spectacular view of the night sky.

And it was only fit to pair this with a song that talks about the moon.

Japanese folk singer and songwriter Ichiko Aoba uses her voice and her guitar as medium to express her musical inspiration. Her acoustic sound makes for a dreamy listening experience. The song chosen for today is “月の丘 (Tsuki No Oka), A Hill of the Moon.”
